Deepa Acharya, Ph.D., ABPP-CN is a Board Certified Clinical Neuropsychologist who is trained in both clinical psychology and neuropsychology (i.e. study of the relationship between brain, thinking and behavior). She will use this unique background and skillset to learn about your strengths and weaknesses in thinking, how this impacts your functioning and make recommendations or develop strategies to improve your quality of life.
Dr. Acharya has extensive experience conducting neuropsychological evaluations of adults (18+) with cognitive (e.g. memory, language, attention), academic (e.g. reading, math, writing), or psychological difficulties to help determine why they may be struggling in their life. A neuropsychological evaluation includes an interview and testing of different abilities (e.g. intellectual, cognitive, academic). Dr. Acharya will then make a diagnosis and help figure out next steps.
Dr. Acharya also does Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and coaching for people with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) or ADHD-like symptoms, including developing cognitive strategies to improve functioning in their daily lives.
Here are some examples of people Dr. Acharya has helped:
1) someone who is living with dementia, a traumatic brain injury, or other medical condition, and experiences changes in memory, language and/or other aspects of thinking;
2) a college student who wants answers regarding problems with learning, reading or attention that they have had since childhood;
3) a professional with attention and organization problems (e.g. due to ADHD) who struggles with attaining their personal and career goals.
4) individuals with a history of psychological difficulties and/or substance abuse who feel that they continue to have problems with memory and attention despite improvement in emotional functioning and/or continued sobriety.
Dr. Acharya attained her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with a specialty in Neuropsychology from the University of Houston and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in neuropsychology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Massachusetts Mental Health Center in Boston. In addition to being the owner of Aspire Cognitive Health LLC, she is a staff neuropsychologist at the VA Boston Healthcare System where she works with U.S. military veterans with complex medical, neurological and psychological conditions. She also supervises interns and post-doctoral fellows in neuropsychology and is an instructor in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Acharya is an out-of-network provider. She is happy to provide paperwork for clients who are interested in filing with their insurance for reimbursement.
